Re: El Futuro De Los Mentores De SL

Re: El Futuro De Los Mentores De SL
Money is money.
"Resident-run volunteer groups will have access to the public Help Islands and Orientation Island".

Cita: Hello M,
My name in SL is Rails Bailey, I am a SecondLife Mentor and one of the owners of Mental Mentors, a private group created as a place where SL Mentors could spam to their hearts content.
It as been a long-long time since new applications for SL Mentors have been open, way too long.
From a personal perspective, it seems that the Vteam has dropped the ball as far as SL Mentors go. I do know that the Vteam has been reduced in numbers due to staff re-assignments, and that Lexie has been working on projects, and Blue, well Blue has his fingers in many pies. This is not a criticism, but a mere observation.
I get the distinct impression that SL Mentors have been left alone to see if they survive. Some SL Mentors have left the program due to the inactivity, some have been ejected due to the normal AR process and the remainder go out and do what they signed on for – to help all residents wherever they can.
Linden Lab best asset in SL is its recognised SL Mentors, people who assist all residents and promote SecondLife, thus in their own way helping retention and ensuring that New Users have a good initial Experience in SL (NUE).
In its present form, the SL Mentor group does need some major work for it to continue to be one of LL’s best assets, there is no doubt of that.
While SL mentors remain in a state of limbo, they are growing stale and previous training is being forgotten, one only has to monitor the SL Mentor group chat to see that.
A major restructure of SL Mentors can save this group of dedicated individuals and give it a positive direction, I have already outlined a proposed structure to Blue, but this is my idea of how Mentors can be re-vitalised and move with the ever changing times in SL.
Apprentice Mentor -
Min of twelve months in SL
LL background check to ensure no AR’s have been filed
Upon completion of back ground check and formal acceptance as a apprentice Mentor, said persons to be moved into the main mentor group with an apprentice tag, this move gives them access to seasoned mentors who can guide them.
Apprentice Mentors to stay in the position of Apprentice Mentor, so we can see if they are suitable for progression.
Apprentice Mentors to be given access to the restricted Help Island, these locations are good training grounds, this was not part of the previous Apprentice Mentor conditions.
Upon the completion of three months as an Apprentice Mentor, formal mentor training is offered and given, this would not be a hand you a mentor tag approach, if Apprentice Mentors want the tag then they have to earn it by completing a formal examination, pass mark 80%.
SL Mentor –
Upon successful completion of the Apprentice training, apprentices are moved into this position.
In this position they can apply for some specialist streams, such as Linguist or Wiki Specialist.
Must serve a minimum period of 12 months in this position before they are allowed to apply for the next grading.
SL Buddy Mentor –
Must have served a minimum as a SL Mentor to hold this position.
Will be required to complete and pass a SL Buddy Mentor training program, min pass mark 80%.
This position will be responsible for guiding and teaching Apprentice Mentors and for taking the apprentices under their wing as required.
SL Senior Mentor
These are the Leaders of the SL Mentor program.
Senior Mentors are selected for their commitment to the Mentor Program.
Senior Mentors need to be unbiased, ethical in their dealings with all SL residents.
Have the ability to eject troublesome mentors from the Mentor Program.
Be totally accountable to the Vteam support that is nominated to monitor the New Improved SL Mentor program
Hold regular office hours, in a restricted environment, maintain minutes of said office hours and publish them on the SL Mentor Blog.
Liaise with such groups as the community gateway group
Vteam Support
Staff selected by LL (current practise)
Provide support to the SL Mentor program via the proposed SL Senior Mentors
Be the official link to LL
M, the above is a proposed structure where everyone wins,
LL wins in that they maintain the SL Mentor program that add value to SL.
The SL Mentors win as they will have defined goals to achieve within the revamped SL Mentor Program, ie, moving from Mentor to Senior Mentor.
The Vteam wins as they have more time to devote to SL projects without having to worry if the SL Mentors are performing well.
Summary
I know that there is a perception within SL that some Mentors are corrupt, but like any organisation you get bad apples and it is up to the organisation to weed them out and remove them.
SL Mentors have always attracted tag hunters, you know the kind – “Look at me I’m an SL Mentor, I’m important”
SL Mentors are not above the terms of service or community standards or the Mentor TAO, they never have been and they never will be, I view mentors as the individuals that serve the SL community first, they are for want of a better description, the public servants of SL, which is why selection and proper training needs to be a mandatory element of becoming a SL Mentor, and if they step out of line, there should be no warning and no appeal process as they are or should be aware that the SL Mentor status is a position that is earned not given out lightly.
I read somewhere that you are a Mentor for private organisations you have served, so I am sure you know where I am coming from.
SL Mentors are an asset to LL and SL and as such need to be properly organised, trained and retained.
This correspondence outlines the bare bones of re-structuring the SL Mentors, this is more behind the scene’s issues that need to form part of this proposal and I would be only too happy to discuss them with you at a time to suit you.
Feel free to contact me at your leisure, via this means, or on skype – RailsBailey
Thanks for listening
Rails Bailey
En fin.

Re: El Futuro De Los Mentores De SL
Cita: The company has decided the time to evolve and grow as a volunteer community has come. While the official Mentor Volunteer Program has been an extremely valuable endeavor, its sheer size has made it increasingly difficult to support, and we need to reallocate our resources at the Lab for other Resident-focused programs.
