Copio y pasteo:

Cita:
The Lindens always seemed to have a code name for each continent, though in the past they were more careful about those codenames being shown, rather than in the case of the Nautilus continent recently having several sims named "Nautilus_#v#" where the # seem to represent batches.

I know some of the past expansions were Hidden Lakes, Lost Lakes, Bambi, Bamboo. Can't exactly match up which are which though. For SLMaps.com I came up with my own continent codes, and I know other cartographers have done similar. Harder to determine with expansions prior to the Heteroceran Atoll, as most of the other mainland expansions were not really separate continents.

Mas info:

Cita:
To the best of my knowledge, there are at present *at least* four continents of "mainland" (as opposed to groups of private regions, some of which, such as Dreamland, Caledon, and the Azure Islands are large enough to count as continents or at least cratons), though it can be very cogently argued there are five ("Nautilus" being two continents rather than one), and it is not entirely clear if Corsica would then be the fifth (the northern part of "Nautilus") or the sixth, and which one, if any, is Korea.

In order of first appearance:

1. The original continent, variously known as the "old mainland," first continent (1C), central continent (CC), or Sansara. Cardinal points are roughly Barcola (Nova Albion peninsula, West), Violet (NW), Urdu (North), Nordica (NE), Findlater (East), Dali (SE), Trollhaugen (South), and Teista (SW).

2. The second (2C), northern (NC), or atoll continent, or Heterocera. Cardinal points at Gallii (W), Scoopwing (NW), Brindle (N), Snout (NE), Ufeus (E), Asella (SE), Cecropia (S), and Alompra (SW). To the best of my knowledge, Sansara/1C and Heterocera/2C are the only two continents (or cratons) that are "physically" connected by the ANWR corridor (the implications for "Nautilus" will be discussed below).

3. The third (3C), or southern (SC) continent. Although I have heard people refer to it as Korea, I have some suspicion that there is a confusion with a small patch of 4 mainland regions between 1C and 3C, named Korea1 through Korea4 (to further confuse matters, Korea is also the name of a private island region). If 3C is *not* named Korea (which tends to be my view), I know of no other simple name for it (see below for a suggestion). Cardinal points are Barsoom (W), Gloaming Vale (NW), Sanchon (N), Moojigae (NE), Uijong (E), Menindee (SE), Tully Low (S), and Glade of Sorrows (SW).

4. The fourth (4C) or eastern (EC) continent, apparently called Nautilus (the article above was the first place I ever encountered the name)--or is it *continents*? A careful look at the map reveals that the eastern "craton" consists of two parts that are not physically connected (the exact opposite of the situation with ANWR between 1C and 2C). There is a “strait”--a gap, two regions wide, between Gladzyck and Sif in the West and Tsurington and Mentha in the East, that has not as yet been bridged. The “southern” half of Nautilus is the oldest, with current cardinal points at Hathor (W), Tonar (NW), De la More (N), Marmedunc (NE), Uretsete (E), Crookshanks (SE), Pounce (S), and Baltazar (SW).

5. The “northern” part of the eastern continent is arguably a fifth continent (5C). Its named cardinal points (unnamed sims extend beyond them in several directions) as of this writing are roughly Trueblood (W), Kutze (NW), Viticuso (N), Valgerd (NE), Psychwar (E), Quietly Red (SE), Woodfall (S), and Farshore (SW). I could easily imagine that this 5C *is* the Corsica referred to above, but there are at least two points that seem to argue against it. First and foremost, the many as yet unnamed regions on its fringes are unquestionably identified as Nautilus. Second, I noticed the oldest regions at its core, such as Seacoal, starting to appear several weeks ago, making it seem odd that “Corsica” would not have been announced earlier. The evidence is mixed, however, as “North Nautilus” (I won’t jump the gun by calling 5C Corsica yet) most definitely fits the description that it “contain[s] a much higher percentage of waterfront parcels than we have seen” at least in the two preceding mainland continents (I believe it can be argued that at least 2C has significantly more waterfront than either 3C or “South Nautilus”).

So, is 5C the northern part of Nautilus, or is it Corsica already? And if it is, will we have a corridor between the two, as with ANWR between Purple on 1C and Cecropia on 2C? If so, that would leave 3C the only entirely isolated craton of mainland. While we are on the subject, does anyone know of a name for 3C? As I have argued above, I don’t think it’s Korea. Australia might be a good name, since it’s in the South (Latin “auster”) and many of its sims are named after Australian landmarks. Of course that could lead to confusion with the RL continent, so maybe some other “southern” name would be indicated. If any Linden is reading this, may I humbly suggest Meridia, from “meridies” the *other* Latin word for South :)
